On a total of three exhibition levels, visitors have the opportunity to learn about the different temporal epochs on the regional perspective of the history of political persecution in the 20th century: 1933 - 1945, 1945 - 1953 and 1953 - 1989.
On June 6, 2001, the Demmlerplatz Documentation Center was ceremonially opened by the German President. It currently houses the permanent exhibition on the regional perspective of the history of political persecution in the 20th century. The largest part of the former cell wing serves as exhibition space for the Documentation Center.

The Documentation Center is open to the public with restrictions.
