Nature reserve northwest shore Wittow and Kreptitz Heath.
The nature reserve Northwest Shore Wittow and Kreptitz Heath is a nature reserve of about 83 hectares on the peninsula Wittow in the north of the Island of Rügen in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Protected here is an extensive section of cliff with offshore boulder and stone grounds as well as one of the longest active marl cliffs in Germany with dunes and sandy grasslands. The heath area of the Kreptitz Heath follows to the northeast. Surrounding villages are Dranske in the south and Kreptitz in the east. The cliff and beach areas are in very good condition, while the heath is becoming overgrown with shrubs due to insufficient grazing, which has a detrimental effect on the conservation purpose. The Kreptitz Heath can be crossed on a boardwalk. In the area of the steep coast there are several exits to the beach. The Kreptitz Heath is dominated by gray dune grassland.
