The two climate forests on Island of Usedom are located in the immediate vicinity at the narrowest point of the island. In addition to the Koserow climate forest, another area for new reforestation has been developed here in Damerow under the direction of the Neu Pudagla forestry office. This new "Climate Forest Damerow" was opened with a donation of 50 forest shares from the Achterkerke Foundation to local families as part of a large planting campaign during the Usedom Wildlife Weeks on October 24, 2009. The English oaks planted here on 2 hectares are now about 5 meters high, so that you can already walk through them.
How to find the climate forest in Damerow
Coming from Wolgast, you can reach the area via the B111 in the direction of Swinemünde/Koserow. About 1.5 km after Zempin, turn right at Forsthaus Damerow. There is a parking lot just behind the railroad tracks. From there, please cross the B111 and follow the signs. The reforestation area is located behind the forest about 200 meters away.
Forest shares for our climate forests
Since 2007, more than 100 hectares of new, climate change-adapted forest have been planted at 19 different locations in all parts of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The reforestation of these additional areas was financed by "forest shares" from holidaymakers, residents and businesses. During planting campaigns for our climate forests, guests can talk to forestry experts and learn exciting details about the forest in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
