Clay is a unique mineral resource. Man and animal build with it, it serves our health as a building material in the home and as a healing agent. Clay stimulates our imagination and creative power. The Clay Museum in Gnevsdorf is the first and only museum in Europe dedicated to this mineral resource.
Clay as a building material from the thin layer of the living, as it has always been used by animals and humans for building. We found it everywhere in the old thatched fieldstone barn, restored what was necessary without smoothing out the traces of hundreds of years of use, and built Germany's first museum for it with models and exhibits, where anyone can take it in their own hands and trace its fascination. Under the clay plastered roof slopes we show two special exhibitions a year on current topics of European and international clay building.
