City Library of the State capital Schwerin

Schwerin City Library is a public library run by the State capital Schwerin.

The city library has a varied history. It was founded in 1922. The first predecessor existed as early as 1863. Today, Schwerin City Library is a modern library under municipal sponsorship.
The main branch in the Schweriner Höfe and the district libraries in Lankow and Neu Zippendorf have a total stock of around 120,000 media.
Books, newspapers/magazines, music CDs, films, games, audio books - there is something for every user of every age.
Various events, such as author readings, library introductions for pupils of all grades or reading aloud events invite you to the library.

A large selection of e-media is offered for readers of e-books and co. via the "Onleihe Mecklenburg-Vorpommern".

Founded in 2012, the "Freundeskreis der Stadtbibliothek e.V." is committed to promoting reading and developing media skills, especially among children and young people.

Wiligrad Castle

Grand ducal linen and bed chamber

On behalf of the Grand Duke, architect Hermann Willebrand created the designs for a linen room. In 1878, after the demolition of the previous building, this was supplemented by the construction of a "bed chamber". Willebrand unified both components with a uniform design and a simple classical plaster façade.

Grand ducal office building

The monumental administration building is located to the northwest of the old town, directly on the Pfaffenteich lake. The building was erected when the Grand Ducal administration moved from Ludwigslust to Schwerin between 1842 and 1845.

Grand ducal stable for sick horses

The former Grand Ducal Stables were built around 1850 as a separate utility building from the Marstall opposite, which was completed in 1842. In addition to the care areas for the horses, the building also housed apartments for the vets and animal keepers. With its simple, late classicist façade, it adjoins the stable building.

Arsenal

The Grand Ducal Arsenal on the south-western bank of the Pfaffenteich in Schwerin, built between 1840 and 1844, is an impressive example of Tudor Gothic architecture. Today it serves as the seat of the state's Ministry of the Interior and combines historical architecture with a central location on the waterfront.
