Riding stables, manor houses and the historic churches characterize the rural villages.

Here you can enjoy the impressive natural spaces on interesting bicycle tours, extensive hikes or even various water sports.
The town's flagship and attraction for many visitors are the mighty walls of the monastery and castle complex. Built in the 12th century by Cistercian monks, the complex has experienced a varied history over the centuries. After the Reformation, the monastery was converted into a castle, which fell victim to a devastating fire at the end of the Second World War. Since 1990, the entire complex has been secured, renovated, used and made accessible to visitors.
Today, the imposing walls of the former monastery can be marveled at during an exciting guided tour of the grounds.
The monastery and castle complex has become a well-known event location in Mecklenburg - Vorpommern and offers a variety of events every year, such as the Darguner Music Summer or concerts of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival. During open-air events in the inner courtyard of the four-winged complex, the 800-year-old walls are shown off to their best advantage by baroque lighting. The monastery church of St. Marien also offers space for around 300 guests. Concerts are also presented here, but church services are also held. A new acoustic sail in the shape of the former vault has significantly improved the sound in the church nave.
On the grounds, in addition to the extensive castle park, are a wedding pavilion, a cafe`, a monastery store, exhibition rooms and in the former guest house of the monastery on 760 square meters "Uns lütt Museum".
Those who want to experience Dargun from a dizzy height can climb the observation tower in the monastery and castle complex. 92 steps of a spiral staircase lead to an observation platform at a height of 25 meters, from where you can enjoy a fantastic view over the small town, the monastery lake and the monastery and castle grounds.
