The Stralsund city forest - for Stralsund residents, this is the city forest on the moor pond.
The Straslund municipal forest is primarily used for recreation, to improve the quality of life in the town, to supply the residents with wood and, of course, for nature conservation.
It is an attractive green belt within the town, covers almost 50 hectares of water and land and was originally a ground moraine. This is why a layer of peat up to seven meters thick still rests under the moor pond today. The very nutrient-rich and moist soil favors the growth of plants such as reed beds and silver willows.
Many different paths and trails lead through the forest, which extends north to southwest around the moor pond. A walk around the moor pond is therefore always a walk through the forest.
