evangelic city church at the old market
The church St.Georgen in Waren (Müritz) was built around 1225 from fieldstones. About 1300 the nave was built and at the end of the 1700 century was badly damaged by fire. After complete renovation in neo-Gothic style, it was rededicated in 1857. The altar, pulpit, galleries and pews also date from that time. Today's St. George's Church is an important example of North German brick Gothic architecture with a tower, a nave and an indented, polygonal choir. Architectural details worth seeing are the friezes, plaster screens and supporting pillars with inset crosses. Particularly noteworthy is the crucifixion group from the 15th century, which survived the city fires almost undamaged.
Concerts and church services are held regularly in the church.
