Wietzow in the Tollense Valley is an artists' village on the Tollense River. Cobblestones, friendly flowered cottages, painted mailboxes. Puppeteers, musicians, painters, life artists and a great wood sculptor are at home here: Christina Rode.
Her dance-like, dreamy sculptures populate the light-filled studio and sometimes escape into the garden to ponder. When the visitor opens the studio door and lets the light in, it is as if he caught the figures in a movement and they pause in the middle of it, as if they had been disturbed in their most intimate life of their own. Thus, they also seem to patiently keep changing, depending on when and how often one is allowed to look at them.
"The sculptures spring from wood, from life, from the belly and from my heart," is how the artist herself describes them best of all. The estate park is also worth a walk.
