Built in the 16th century and since then owned by the family of Baron von Krassow, the estate, originally built in Renaissance style, was rebuilt and extended in neo-Renaissance style around 1860.
In the 19th century the manor became the property of the Princes of Inn and Knyphausen. After the expropriation in 1945, the castle was occupied by several families. Due to poor maintenance, the estate deteriorated visibly and was used as a quarry after the last residents moved out.
The beginnings of the park date back to the 17th century. The baroque garden was laid out around the castle and gradually expanded. Then, in the 19th century, it was transformed into an English-style landscape garden of about 40 hectares. Important elements of the park are the Wonder Lake with the Love Island, as well as the exotic tree species planted in the later 19th century, most of which are still present. After reunification, the v. Knyphausen family succeeded in reacquiring significant parts of the park.
Since 2006, the park has been restored and rescued from its slumber. Dendrological rarities, miracle lake with love island, heart and kidney pond. The only cemetery forest (alternative burial under trees) in a public park.
