Roggendorf Castle was probably built around 1895. The building, which has been restored to a large extent, is located at the entrance to a natural landscape park of about five hectares with an impressive, artificially created pond complex.
In the Biosphere Reserve Schaalsee, west of the small town of Gadebusch, is the village of Roggendorf. There, in 1887, the Hamburg entrepreneur Carl Theodor von Haase acquired the Roggendorf estate and had a manor house built one year later. The manor house, today also called "Roggendorf Castle", was designed and built by the architect Martin Haller in the neo-baroque style. Later, in 1910, the house was rebuilt. However, the staircase and the entrance area remained unchanged. At that time, the mansion had advanced equipment, for example, fountains could be set in motion in the park from the dining room. Another modern feature was the mansion's own electricity and waterworks, which supplied the house and park with energy. The landscape park belonging to the building was laid out by Leberecht Migge in the early 20th century and is now open to the public. Below the terrace is a fieldstone grotto dating from 1891. The park is worth seeing mainly for its sandstone sculptures and a remarkable bridge construction that is still preserved. In 1992, the manor house was taken over by the Northeast Educational Center and converted into a modern training facility. The building is listed as a historical monument.
