Cultural History Museum of Everyday Magic and Witch Persecutions in Mecklenburg
The small town of Penzlin is located in a scenic part of the Mecklenburg Lake District. The most important sight of Penzlin is the "Old Castle" from the 16th century. Since 1994 the museum for "Magic and Witchcraft in Mecklenburg" is located here. Expert guided tours provide information about the history of the castle and bring the witch hunt back to life on a tour of the torture chamber and the witch dungeons, which are unique in their kind. Also worth seeing are the black kitchen with its 12-meter-high smoke trap and the knights' hall, which is now used as a registry office. A witch playground awaits the little visitors, the castle restaurant invites you to linger. The castle courtyard with the witch animal benches and the herb garden offers visitors a special ambience. Visible from afar, the 13th century church of St. Mary towers like a mother hen over the dreamy little town.
Every year on April 30, the Walpurgis Night, as well as always on the penultimate weekend in August, the castle festival takes place and attracts thousands of visitors.
