Although Putbus Castle, the former manorial seat of the Princes of Putbus, was razed to the ground as early as 1962, the beautiful castle park is still a reminder of this magnificent time. Magnolias and sequoias adorn the garden, which is laid out in English style.
The park was created in 1804 by the founder of the town Wilhelm Malte I. zu Putbus, originally in French style. Later it was continued in the style of an English landscape park. The classicistic castle, around which the park was created, was unfortunately demolished in the 60s of the 20th century. Still preserved are the orangery, the stables, the mausoleum, the parish church and the castle church, as well as the monkey and bird house.
Then as now, Putbus is known not only for its castle and circus, but also for its scenic surroundings. Not surprisingly, even Caspar David Friedrich traveled the Putbus area. He incorporated the impressions he gained, for example, in the paintings "A View of Putbus" and "Landscape with Rainbow".
