The baroque palace on the shores of Lake Kummerow was renovated to the highest standards of historic preservation. The castle houses a private collection of modern art with a focus on international photography.
With the "Photographic Collection - Kummerow Castle" the castle shows a first part of its treasures. The collection, which focuses on contemporary photography, is exhibited in the former residence of the castle complex. The private collection includes works by internationally renowned photographers. These also form the basis of the permanent and temporary exhibitions at Schloss Kummerow.
The focus of the holdings is on the period from the Second World War to the present day. Artists such as Sybille Bergemann, Thomas Demand, Arno Fischer, Andreas Gursky, Harald Hauswald, Ute and Werner Mahler, Helga Paris, Thomas Ruff, Hiroshi Sugimoto and many others can be found here. At the heart of the holdings are photographs taken during the GDR era by now renowned representatives of Eastern photography.
A public attraction is the density of large-format works that give the palace, with its more than 3,500 square meters, back its once vaunted tapestry furnishings. Several cinema rooms allow for the presentation of time-based works such as film and video. Schloss Kummerow also welcomes you to its regular castle concerts.
