Bothmer Castle is one of the largest baroque palaces in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. It was built in 1726-1732 by the architect Johann Friedrich Künnecke. The builder was Imperial Count Hans Caspar von Bothmer.
Only four kilometers south of the Baltic Sea lies Bothmer Castle in the middle of an idyllic park. This jewel of baroque brick architecture owes its existence to the adventurous life of one man: Count Hans Caspar von Bothmer. He began his career as a simple diplomat in the provinces of Lower Saxony and rose to become the first advisor to the English king. In London, he lived at the legendary 10 Downing Street. From there, he had the magnificent palace ensemble built from 1726.
The irresistible charm of the impressive palace complex has now been a reminder of its builder for almost 300 years, and since 2015 it has been open for everyone to experience for the first time in its history. A tour of the main house not only allows visitors to discover the beauty of the restored rooms. A modern exhibition tells under the motto of the count "Respice Finem" (Consider the end) - of the almost fairy-tale success of Hans Casper and his castle building.
Bothmer Castle invites visitors to linger: In the seven-hectare castle park, peace and idyll in nature are not the only attractions - for many summers, the castle park has also served as a green backdrop for concerts that have thrilled thousands. The baroque Festonallee, which leads towards the castle, offers a unique sight with its whimsical linden trees and makes a visit to Bothmer unforgettable. In the large castle store, visitors can browse for regional specialties and original English items. A children's playground invites you to explore and the "Orangerie Schloss Bothmer" invites you to a relaxing end of the day.
