The tumulus field in the "Black Mountains" near Ralswiek includes over 400 graves from the Slavic period.
In the "Black Mountains" near Ralswiek is the largest tumulus burial ground of Rügen. The more than 400 graves from the Slavic period, most of which have been archaeologically investigated, cover an area of about 400 x 700 meters. In the grave necropolis the dead of the opposite sea trading place Ralswiek - probably the oldest permanently settled place of Rügen - seem to have been buried. Quite a few finds from the burial ground prove a far-reaching trade with Northern Europe and the Orient. Among the special features of the necropolis are boat burials and a horseman's grave in a wooden chamber.
