A popular viewing platform to watch the "birds of happiness", the cranes.

The village Tankow, is located in the north-east of the island Ummanz, in the National Park of Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft. Tankow is especially known among birdwatchers. In spring and autumn a pleasant cry of geese, cranes and other migratory birds breaks the silence of the area, also known as a crane resting place of European rank. The best way to observe the migratory birds is from the recommended vantage points. The same applies to the observation of the cranes during their search for food. One of these viewing platforms is located in Tankow. Regular guided tours are offered by the Ummanz Information in Waase.

The Haidhof climate forest covers an area of just under one hectare and is made up of red oaks, sweet chestnuts and hazel trees in combination with various woodland edge trees. At several planting events in the fall since 2011, guests and residents have been able to talk to foresters and forest campaigners about the climate forests on the Island of Rügen while enjoying children's games, campfires and wild sausages.
