In the small village of Watzkendorf between the Müritz National Park and the Feldberg Lake District Nature Park, vegetables have been grown since 1961.
We produce a wide range of vegetable crops in the main season from June to October.
In the years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, the vegetable farm was able to develop into an organic nursery and became a member of the Bioland Association in 1996. At that time we cultivated 7ha of open land and 6 foil tunnels as well as the centerpiece - a 1,200m² heatable greenhouse.
Today we garden on about 21ha of open land, in 6.300m² greenhouses, 5.100m² foil tunnels and 4.500m² foil houses.
We extend our season by growing in foil tunnels and greenhouses. In order to continuously supply the market, we grow many crops in sets. For example, 24 sets of lettuce are planted. This means sowing and planting every week from February to August in order to be able to harvest lettuce from April to October.
In addition, we grow what can be put in the ground:
- various cabbage vegetables
- leafy vegetables
- root vegetables
- onion plants and
- fruiting vegetables.
In our seasonal calendar you can see the availability of each vegetable at biogaertnerei-watzkendorf.de.
Or just drop by: We are happy to sell from our cold stores to customers who visit us on the farm. Our young plants can also be purchased directly from the greenhouse.
