Idyllic villages, blooming heath, dunes along the Baltic Sea and Bodden coast and small harbors can be discovered on the tour, as well as the lighthouse in the north of the island on the "Schluckswiek" and sites where art and cultural history was written. Hiddensee is still a refuge and place of work for many artists and cultural workers. Asta Nielsen and Gerhart Hauptmann were once constantly drawn to the söte Länneken, the sweet little land, to pursue their passions in peace and seclusion or to recover from them. Along the route there are exhibitions and information to discover about the two artists.
In its originality, the island offers scenic and natural diversity. One lives, feels and breathes nature. Nature lovers get their money's worth in the National Park of Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft with its rugged cliffs and salt marshes, which are resting and breeding grounds for bird species. The national park house provides a lot of background information on the landscape's habitat.
Of course, a relaxing break on the beach is allowed during the tour, because that's what the beautiful sandy beaches on Hiddensee's west coast are for, after all. With a bit of luck, you may even find an amber washed up on the beach by the west wind.
At the end of the tour you will enjoy the view over the Baltic Sea at the small southern lighthouse on the Gellen in the very south of the island, perhaps even at sunset, and let the day pass in review. From there you will go to the pier in Neuendorf and back to Schaprode on the Island of Rügen.

The easiest way to reach the island of Hiddensee is by ferry from Schaprode. During the season there are also ferries from Stralsund and Wiek and Dranske. Info at www.reederei-hiddensee.de
