The 400-kilometer-long natural paradise Biosphere Reserve River Landscape Elbe stretches from Wittenberge to Lauenburg. The untamed river and its charming shoreline offer a home to storks, cranes, beavers, otters, white-tailed eagles and gray herons. From Gothmann to Klein Schmölen, the cyclists are accompanied by juniper-covered drifting sand dunes. Near Dömitz, Europe's largest inland shifting sand dune towers an impressive 28 meters high.

From the heights of the dikes, on which the cycle path runs for the most part, there are magnificent panoramic views. Stately half-timbered houses and charming small towns nestle in the floodplains. Dömitz itself not only impresses with its location at the mouth of the Müritz-Elde waterway, but also with a star-shaped brick fortress. On the fortress grounds, visitors can learn a lot of interesting facts about man and the biosphere at the Information Center for the Biosphere Reserve River Landscape Elbe Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Both banks of the Elbe are equally charming, and thanks to the ferry lines on this leg, cycling vacationers can switch sides at will.

Boizenburg welcomes its guests with a picture-perfect market square ensemble, a historic rampart and a magnificent view over the wide Elbe valley. The nature park administration located here provides information about the nature park and offers guided hikes. From Boizenburg, we recommend the route along the eastern bank, where the charming town of Lauenburg soon greets you.

At the gates of Hamburg, the Elbe divides into two arms. From the south, the pulsating heart of the Hanseatic city can be conquered. On the opposite bank, the blossoming orchards of the Alte Land lie dreaming. At Cuxhaven, the Elbe joins the North Sea and enters the eternal game of ebb and flow.
