The journey to the sunny island of Usedom starts in the pulsating center of the cosmopolitan city of Berlin. From Prenzlau, the cyclists literally "fly" over the flat meadows of the Uckermark towards Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The small river Uecker accompanies them through the Szczecin Lagoon Nature Park (Am Stettiner Haff) to Ueckermünde. The wet meadows and blooming water lilies are teeming with birds, amphibians and butterflies. North of Pasewalk, the forest takes over. The sea of green pines, white birches and purple heather reaches all the way to the lagoon.

The castle tower of Ueckermünde towers over the old town like a beacon. A colorful bustle of sailing boats, fishing barges and passenger ships spreads a maritime flair. To the west of the port, cozy fishing villages alternate with fine sandy beaches.

In Anklam, the birthplace of aviation pioneer Otto Lilienthal, even down-to-earth cyclists tend to soar. The route quickly crosses a bascule bridge to the Island of Usedom. Crossing the unspoiled hinterland, it quickly becomes clear why the island was declared a nature park. The promenade between the imperial resorts of Ahlbeck, Heringsdorf and Bansin leads past magnificent villas of the golden age. Below spreads the longest sandy beach of the Baltic coast, divided by elegant sea bridges. At the narrowest point of the island near Lüttenort, the view of the Achterwasser opens up from the bike path. Fascinated by the beguiling landscape, the painter Otto Niemeyer-Holstein built his studio and residence here.

Route characteristics:
The Berlin-Usedom long-distance cycle route runs in Ostvorpommern mainly on well-maintained cycle paths or secondary roads. However, there are also short sections with local concrete slab paths. On the Island of Usedom, the route runs mainly on asphalt bike paths and quiet side roads. In the south of the island, the route takes in some unpaved forest and field paths.
