Right at the beginning of the tour, the Warnow shows its versatility. Shortly before its mouth, in Rostock's city harbor, large sailing ships can drop anchor. A few kilometers further on, it flows peacefully through meadows and riparian forests. Cyclists follow the river along dense reed belts, through quiet villages with small village churches and neat manor houses.
In the wildly romantic Warnow Breakthrough Valley, the Warnow really lets off steam. Over large boulders and fallen trees it becomes a raging torrent. The ancient Slavic temple town of Groß Raden promises further adventures. From afar, the magnificent Sternberg town church invites you to visit the half-timbered town.
In the Sternberg Lake District Nature Park, one lake after another beckons you to take a dip. The path leads through woods and meadows to Crivitz. On the way, a white fairy-tale castle sits enthroned on a hill in the landscape park of Kaarz. After a few kilometers, Lake Pinnow glistens and shortly thereafter the southern part of Lake Schwerin. From Raben Steinfeld, a detour to the nearby state capital is worthwhile. On the eastern shore of Lake Schwerin, there is a dreamlike view of the magnificent Schwerin Residence Palace.
Cyclists experience the ride back to Sternberg as charming and beautiful. In their natural splendor, rustling deciduous forests, tranquil ponds and flower-strewn meadows are on display.
The last stage follows the Warnow downstream to the romantic Rühn Monastery, through the old town alleys of Bützow, to Schwaan. In the 19th century, landscape painters founded an artists' colony here. Flower meadows and forest islands line the further way to Rostock.
