Hanseatic City of Stralsund

Prosperity became World Heritage

Museums with penguins and huge aquariums, beer enjoyment of the Störtebeker traditional brewery, Stralsund Bismarck herring, a filigree town hall, cozy cafés and the feeling of the Hanseatic era - all this is simply: Typical Stralsund!

The Katharinenkloster is located in the heart of the UNESCO-protected old town of the Hanseatic city of Stralsund

Stralsund - Can Both Be Young and Old

Even during a stroll through the city or a guided tour through the alleys of Stralsund, one recognizes the versatility of the "city by the sea". The UNESCO World Heritage city can score with many architectural highlights, such as the Knieper and Kütertor, or impress with the historic brick giants St. Nikolai, St. Marien and St. Jakobi. If you want to take a look at the harbor panorama of the Hanseatic city, you can't miss the modern Ozeaneum: it offers a wave of worth-knowing information for every generation to touch, participate in, and a lot of sea. Highlights include the huge aquariums with their impressive sea creatures, the penguin enclosure on the roof terrace and the true-to-the-original exhibition of sea giants.

A True All-rounder

Stralsund also has a lot to offer culturally, with the Theater Vorpommern attracting many visitors time and again. Annual events such as the Harbour Days and Wallenstein Days underline the maritime flair of the historic Hanseatic city. Stralsund also has a very sporty side, the Sund Swim and the Rügen Bridge Marathon are the sporting events par excellence.

A City with a Prime Location

Hiddensee , Rügen or Fischland-Darß-Zingst ? No matter which direction the wind takes you, many excellent excursion spots are just a hop, skip and a jump away in Stralsund. Whether on foot, by ferry, by bike or by public transport, there are many ways to get to know the city and its surroundings from different perspectives.
