Historic Old Town with Brick Churches, Gabled Houses and Small Alleys
In the city center, the dressed-up gabled houses are packed together, with the idyllic Holy Cross Monastery with the Museum of Cultural History and the oldest university in Northern Europe in between. Along the small alleys and around Kröpeliner Straße, many stores, boutiques, cafés and restaurants are lined up. The market square is adorned with the baroque-clad seven-tower pink town hall. Above everything the big brick churches and all around the city wall with the mighty gates and the quiet ramparts.
Maritime Flair in Rostock's City Harbour
Only a few minutes away from the city center is the city harbor with its wide waterfront promenade. With its restaurants, bars and old warehouses, it is the perfect destination - for a stroll, a meal out or ship watching.
Warnemünde Seaside Resort
Where the Warnow flows into the Baltic Sea lies Rostock's "beautiful daughter," the seaside resort of Warnemünde. In this former fishing village, cruise ships are anchored next to idyllic captain's houses and fishing boats. The Alte Strom and the promenade invite you to stroll and linger. The kilometer-long, white sandy beach behind the Baltic dunes and the seaside resort villas are not only inviting to Warnemünde for summer recreation.
Rostock Heath - Active Recreation in Nature
East of the Warnow, directly behind the dunes, the Rostock Heath opens up. The unspoiled coastal forest is the habitat of numerous animal and plant species and invites you to go hiking and cycling along the Baltic Sea Coast Cycle Path. The mild, stimulating climate of the Baltic Sea also promotes physical well-being.
