The tour leads north through Lake Mirow to the Alte Fahrt from where a labyrinth of numerous narrow lakes and canals weaves through the gently rolling landscape of the Mecklenburg Kleinseenplatte. On the shores, pine heaths alternate with beech groves, bog forests and juniper heaths. Spring and autumn offer a special spectacle of nature: then tens of thousands of wild geese and cranes can be seen on the forest meadows.
Once the Alte Fahrt was the only navigable connection between the Müritz and the waters around Mirow to the upper Havel. Nowadays, to the delight of nature lovers seeking peace and quiet, most of the water area is closed to motorized boats. At the Bolter Lock, the smell of freshly prepared fish specialties invites you to take a break. Afterwards, the tour continues across the southern tip of the Müritz and the Sumpfsee lake into the Müritz-Havel waterway.
Since the Müritz-Havel waterway is no longer used for commercial shipping, many sport boats, yachts and excursion boats cavort here in addition to canoes. Against this lively backdrop, the final spurt is approaching.
Water profile
Idyllic, almost current-free tour, which even inexperienced can easily master. Only in the area of the Müritz, Kleine Müritz and the Woterfitzsee considerable waves can occur in strong onshore winds. In this case please paddle back to Mirow via Alte Fahrt. One tour section leads through the core zone of the Müritz National Park, which makes it absolutely necessary to follow the marked routes. A boat trolley is available at the transfer station at the Bolter Mühle.
