The tour begins in Dahmen. Surrounded by forests, reed belts and reed beds, you paddle through Lake Malchin, which leads into the Dahmen Canal at the northern end. This is not a typical canal, but very scenic and varied. Forest, meadow and floodplain areas characterize the landscape. If you look closely, you can discover beaver castles and observe ospreys and white-tailed eagles circling over their hunting grounds.

After about 17 kilometers, the tour leads to the small town of Malchin. Via the Peene Canal, you then reach Lake Kummerow. This is one of the largest lakes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and should therefore be enjoyed with caution in westerly winds. After crossing the Kummerower See lake, the Wasserwanderrastplatz Aalbude invites you to take a short break.

Freshly strengthened it goes toward the Peene. This completely natural and sometimes very shallow river is considered one of the most beautiful lowland rivers in Europe. It winds its way through swampy meadows and peat pits filled with water. Especially in spring, polyphonic bird concerts interrupt the silence. In the Hanseatic town of Demmin, the destination of this tour is reached. If you wish, you can continue paddling on the Peene as far as Anklam.

Water profile

Calm waters without any transfer. On the Kummerower See, strong waves form from wind force three on the eastern shore. The Peene can also be paddled upstream because of the low gradient (30 cm).
